Old Friends
August 2, 2026
This week’s unwritten hours wrote themselves into its best chapter… spent drinking coffee, smoking cigarettes, eating chocolates, and running after stray cats in the middle of a tiny village… Once more, fate did what it does best — it inconvenienced two old, old friends into exactly the right place.
Just like the good old times, we laughed our way through the latest pages of life’s comedy… This time about having no choice but to bet on our own talents.
And somewhere between the chaos, the 2,500 kilometres that had separated us for almost a decade turned into nine.
Isn’t it funny how, so often, you and your closest friends find yourselves living the very same season? Somehow, you find each other at the very same crossroads, complaining about.. the weather. And while my story of how I ended up there was funny, Steven’s was hilarious.
It all started with a simple financial decision. He sold his new car and bought a cheaper one.
As fate would have it, the following morning his latest investment — having fulfilled its contractual obligations — betrayed him at the busiest intersection…
But Steven was convinced he knew exactly what the problem was. So, he replaced a part, and everything was just swell….
But morning came, and he found himself once again deserted at yet another intersection.
One repair bill later, the mechanic assured him it was a solid car. Through the entire conversation, this man kept repeating:
“Solid car.”
“Very strong car, mate.”
“Very, very good car.”
Steven laughed in disbelief, amused by the absurdity of it all.
“If it’s such a solid car, why does it keep breaking down?”
A few days later, his solid investment left him to fend for himself on the road again…
Steven decided he’d had enough roadside drama. So came car number two.
Steven’s new bargain chose his very first day back at work to break down, leaving him right back where he started.
One near heart attack and two repair bills later, came car number three.
At this point, you’d think whatever curse or dark spell he was under would finally show him a little mercy.
Oh, no.
Car number three joined the conspiracy. This time, while he was at work…
Steven found himself trapped in the very same scene: the panic, the warning triangle, the traffic, the phone call, the very same questions. His life had somehow turned into a recurring nightmare, as though someone had forgotten to write the next page.
So, Steven finally realised that whenever fate becomes so unrealistically persistent, you have to listen…
He left his job.
He left the country.
And he came home, certain that destiny was waiting…
So, whenever our solo careers become a little too lonely, or the ever-growing number of strays a little too overwhelming, we gather our dogs, drink coffee, smoke heavy cigarettes, eat good chocolate, and celebrate the quiet miracle of having someone to weather the storm with.
Thank you for reliving this moment with me!
See you next Sunday at 4.
Love, Kiki
